Save Money - Furnace and Cooling Tips

The Premier Provider of Heating and Cooling Services.

  • Service your heating system every year by a licensed HVAC company: It's the best money you'll ever spend.

  • Change your filters regularly every two to three months. A dirty filter cuts off the circulation of air and causes your system to work harder with less heat.

  • Install a programmable thermostat: This is a must. You can program it to lower the temperature while you're at work or sleeping and save up to 30 percent. An outdated thermostat is the weakest link in conserving energy.

  • Add weather stripping around windows and doors. This is a project any home owner can do. If you live in a drafty home you can save up to 20% on your heating cost with an investment as little as $20.00

  • Install ceiling fans. Remember Heat Rises. Run a ceiling fan slowly and in reverse will keep the warm air circulating and keep you more comfortable. Plus your furnace won't have to work so hard saving you money.

  • Rearrange your furniture: A couch or chair over a heating vent or in front of a baseboard radiator decreases the efficiency of the units and causes your heating system to run longer.

  • Insulate your hot water heater and turn it down. The insulation blanket helps the water to stay hot and your system to work less lowering your utility cost.

  • Install a tankless water heater. Tankless water heaters are less expensive then they have been in the past and can save hundreds of dollars. There is no need to store gallons and gallons of hot water. A small tankless unit can produce about 3.3 gallons continuously. Your can recover your cost in about three years in energy cost savings. A seven year old tank heater runs at about 60 percent efficiency while a tankless heater of the same age runs at 70 to 75 percent efficiency.

  • Insulate your ceilings and attic. As stated earlier heat rises if there isn't enough insulation in the space above your money is going out the roof.

  • Check your duct work and heating vents for gaps. Leaks can increase your heating bill by 25% if you are unable to do this yourself hire a professional. (AM/PM Heating & Cooling)

  • Have your duct work cleaned. This helps with the air flow and also helps with bacteria in the air which is a major cause of allergies and other health problems

  • Open the blinds and drapes on sunny days. Let the sun help heat your home. Close the blinds and drapes at night to help keep heat in were it belongs.

  • Look for the Energy Star Label on your appliances. This label means the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency has deemed these products to be energy efficient.

  • If your furnace is over 12 years old have it replaced. This sounds expensive but with the tax credits and energy savings your new system will give it will pay for it's self within 5 years. When you call for your consultation appointment, be sure to check out a Hybrid System. You do need to have natural gas as well as electricity to your home.
